Formula 1 to move to Sky Sports in new deal

Sky Sports to show all Grands Prix starting in 2012

29 July 2011

So the inevitable has happened and Formula 1 will be broadcast on Sky Sports starting as early as the 2012 season.

All is not lost for you avid Formula 1 fans who don’t have access to Sky Sports, the BBC will still be involved with the broadcast of select races throughout the season and in total will show around half of the Grands Prix. However, these races will only be available to UK users online but will include such races as Silverstone, the Monaco GP and the concluding race of the season. The Managing Director for Sky Sports had this to say about the new deal:

"This is fantastic news for F1 fans and Sky Sports will be the only place to follow every race live and in HD.” "We will give F1 the full Sky Sports treatment with a commitment to each race never seen before on UK television."

So don’t forget to change that channel come the 2012 season so you can catch the Formula 1 from the beginning and hopefully Sky won’t ruin the experience by putting adverts in the middle of races and focusing on just using the sport to cash-in a profit.
