Bahrain deadline extended

FIA POSTPONES BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX DECISION UNTIL JUNE

3 May 2011

The Fia has granted Bahrain a one month extension in order to decide whether or not the Bahrain Grand Prix will go ahead this year.

The Bahrain authorities were originally given until 1st May to make a decision, but since the country was declared under a state of emergency in March, the deadline has now been extended until 3rd June. In a statement issued by the FIA a spokesman said:

The Federation Internationale de l'Automobile, has granted the Bahrain Motor Federation and the Bahrain International Circuit an extension until June 3rd, date of the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Barcelona

It seems the Bahrain organisers are keen to hold the race as soon as possible. Zayed Rashid Alzayani the Cicuit Chaiman said:

Clearly our national priority is to find a resolution to the difficulties that the Kingdom of Bahrain has experienced. The national situation has moved on in a positive manner and is evolving all the time; our day-to-day life is gradually improving under the current State of National Safety.

One way or another, lets just hope a solid decision is made as soon as possible given the current situation in the Middle East.
