Kart Champs Winners 2016

KartChamps Winners 2016

TeamSport KartChamps 2016 comes to a close and what a finish... check out the winners and all the news from the competition.

#KartChamps 2016 is now complete and what a fantastic battle it has been once again! Following your valued feedback, in 2016 we made a number of improvements to the format of KartChamps. These included making it exclusive to our valued GRID members, hosting the competition across two regions, where region A had their finals hosted in Warrington and Region B fought out their finals in Reading. Finally we also added further categories based not only on age and weight but also experience with Club and Elite categories. We hope you agree that this new format has given an enhanced race and competition format to all involved.

Round 1 started back in May where we welcomed many familiar faced drivers and excitingly some new faces to the track to set their top hot laps. As always drivers could race as frequently as they liked in order to achieve and submit their best 3 lap times before the end of July. The nail biting Track Attack was Round 2 where we really saw the competition hot up! This round was all about setting as many consistent fast lap times as possible by attending as many Track Attack nights as possible. The Finals then started at the end of August and will finish very shortly by the end of September, allowing enough time for each category to have their own Final night.

The lucky winners and top runner ups not only get to lift their trophies on the podium but additional prizes include the fantastic MINI Challenge and numerous Golden Tickets and karting vouchers.

This year we have seen a number of our younger speed demon karters make a huge amount of progress on the track and really take the competition to the next level. As KartChamps2016 draws to a close we took five minutes out and put the spotlight on a few of our younger #GRID members and their parents to hear a little bit more about their progress...

Luke Evans - AKA 'The Rocket' - Luke won the Cadet KartChamps2016 final in Warrington, he came third 2 years ago and was runner up last year. We spoke to Lukes Dad- Jeff Evans about Luke’s success and here is what he had to say… “A massive part of Luke’s progression and success over the past 3 years is thanks to Alex Camilleri , the Cardiff mechanic. Alex has gone above and beyond his role to take Luke under his wing and provided him with lots of karting advice, guidance and help out on the track. A real special bond has been formed.” TeamSport are thrilled for Luke and can’t wait to see him continue improving. We would also like to offer a big thanks to Alex who is a shining example of putting the customer on pole.

Jude Curtis – Jude finished 2nd in the Cadet final at Warrington after only taking Karting up as a hobby 3 months ago as part of KartChamps. Everyone at TeamSport is amazed by Jude’s obvious natural talent and love for Karting. The crew at all tracks take great pride in supporting the youngsters and watching their progression and confidence grow.. Jude is clearly one to watch out for!

Connor Prosser – Connor has competed in the Cadet division in the past two years taking trophies on both occasions, so the pressure for another win this year was high, especially as Connor had moved up to the Junior division for 12-16 year olds. We are thrilled for Connor who beat off a huge number of experienced and older karters in this very competitive category to finish 3rd overall. Lisa Prosser, Connors’ mum commented… “this was a new category for Connor and for him to be the youngest racing and get a podium place was amazing. Connor was focused and fought hard to be in the top 3 and we are over the moon. A big thanks to the Crew at our local TeamSport Birmingham track for their on-going support.”

Drum roll please… After many months of epic karting, a huge number of entries and some fantastic hosting of the Finals by the guys at Warrington and Reading we are thrilled to be able to announce all of our 2016 winners...
