Disappointing Government Reclassification
Unfortunately our planned re-opening in England on 12th April has had to be delayed at extremely short notice.
This is due to a sudden and unexpected amendment to Covid regulations made by the Government late on Friday 9th April and without any prior consultation.
We have only ever opened our centres when it was lawful to do so under the applicable Covid legislation. We had taken extensive advice from our primary Environmental Health Officer, Motorsport UK and our legal advisors, who had all confirmed that it was permissible to re-open these sites from Monday, based on the extensive legislation and guidance published in March and before, which should have allowed businesses to prepare.
Late on Friday and without any prior consultation or warning the Government has created a brand new category of “recreational driving facilities”, a term never before seen in any guidance or legislation and defined that this brand new classification must close until at least 17th May.
We understand how frustrating this news is to our customers, especially those that already had bookings with us over this period where we must now close. Also to our teams who had worked so hard to get everything ready for your return.
We are utterly shocked that the Government has changed the legislation at the 11th hour, with no prior consultation or warning. Even more so as we know that measures we have in place to keep you safe whilst with us, and the size of our venues, makes go karting a safe activity.
We will be contacting everyone who has booked, to reschedule your booking. We really do appreciate your loyalty and patience during this difficult time and look forward to welcoming you back to track when we are allowed to open on 17th May.
