Vettel one point away from Grand Prix victory

Sebastian Vettel on brink of Grand Prix title

26 September 2011

Unsurprisingly, Vettel has all but won the Grand Prix title after his victory in Singapore at the weekend. All that is left for him to do is score just one more point in Japan in order to be crowned the 2011 winner.

Beginning in pole position for the 11th time this season, Vettel stormed away in front almost a second quicker than Button for the first 14 laps but then pretty much went on to dominate the majority of the race. A heavy incident with Schumacher meant that the safety car was out in full force after he clipped Sergio Perez and luckily both emerged unharmed. However the talk of the race, has to be Hamilton's run in with Massa after he almost collided during the Q3 on Saturday and made contact with him on Sunday. Accusing Hamilton of  "unable to use his mind and is incapable of listening" the Ferrari driver then went on confront Hamilton after the race whilst he was conducting a television interview, but Lewis refusing to respond to it, walked away. All in all quite an interesting race, quite sad to see the lack of sportsmanship concerning Massa and Hamilton. Not at all professional, I understand the frustrations on Massa's part but they should of had a quiet word away from the press in order to sort their differences. The final results were as follows:

  • Sebastian Vettel
  • Jenson Button
  • Mark Webber
  • Fernando Alonso
  • Lewis Hamilton
  • Paul Di Resta
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Adrian Sutil
  • Felipe Massa
  • Sergio Perez
