Pirelli to Supply Tyres for Formula 1 in 2011 Championship

Who are you going to call when your tyres wear out?

26 June 2010

So you’re half way through your Formula 1 Grand Prix

and you’re tyres are wearing out with each continuing lap, what are you going to do? No problem, pull into the pits and get your team to fit you with a fresh pair of Bridg...wait, no...I mean Pirellis. Thats right sports fans, Pirelli have won the contract to supply the tyres for Formula 1. Their 3 year contract will begin with the 2011 Formula 1 season, the Italian manufacturer was preferred over the British firm Avon, while Michelin weren’t in with a shot for the contract. Pirelli haven’t supplied tyres for Formula 1 in 20 years and commencing next year they will be the sole supplier for the duration of their contract. This hopefully won’t make a huge impact on the race, all you need is a few wheels on your vehicle right? The last Formula 1 race won on Pirelli tyres was achieved by Nelson Piquet in the 1991 Canadian Grand Prix after Nigel Mansell’s Williams broke down on the last lap. This is big news in the Formula 1 world and I’m really looking forward to seeing what the drivers and teams have to say about it. If you don’t want the hassle of having your tyres changed when your blitzing round the track, then get yourself Karting, theres absolutely no pit stops necessary.
