McLaren are off to a flying start in Monza

Can Hamilton and Button seal a McLaren one-two in Italy?

9 September 2011

We’re two practice sessions down in the glorious setting of Monza and we have already seen the McLaren boys burn around the track with blistering pace. First practice showed the raw speed of the McLaren cars with Hamilton setting the fastest time followed by Button. Second practice saw Vettel and his Red Bull squeeze into the fastest place by less than 400th’s of a second. A few new conditions have come in to play this race as Pirelli have imposed a strict limit on the camber allowed for use on the cars. Last Grand Prix in Spa, Red Bull actually broke the limit in order to get the maximum out of the tyres but this lead to heavy blistering. A couple of teams followed suit but this time around sanctions may be imposed on teams breaking the limit from Pirelli. The teams will have to watch out for the use of two DRS zones at this track, which will cause an extra strategy headache not to mention an incredible strain on an already over-stressed car. Let’s wait and see if the McLaren boys can put in a competitive time for qualifying then hopefully we’ll be in for a sure stunner of a Grand Prix.
