Hamilton takes victory at the Canadian Grand Prix

Canada creates a seventh different Grand Prix winner

10 June 2012

Lewis Hamilton has become the seventh different F1 driver to claim a GP win this year and he is now leading the Championship, two points ahead of Alonso. It comes after the McLaren driver spoke bluntly following the Monaco Grand Prix, about his frustration with the team, who he felt had been letting him down; I wrote about it in one of my last posts.

The win in Canada was his eighteenth and Hamilton was evidently very proud of it. He said:

Every victory is special, every victory is new and fresh. It feels just as special as my first one here, if not a little bit more. When I came across the line, I was like: finally, thank goodness, thank God, I don't know what to say. I'm so excited and so happy.

What a different place Lewis is in now compared to less month!

The Canadian Grand Prix also proved fruitful for Sergio Perez from the Sauber team. He came third after starting way back on the grid - who would have imagined him reaching the podium?! Certainly not him, that's for sure! He said:

Until I passed Fernando, after starting 15th, the last thing you would think about is ending up on the podium. It’s a great result for the team after such a bad day yesterday when we had a lot of trouble with the brakes. Today, it’s just great to finish here on the podium. It’s a great boost for the team

Good luck to both Lewis and Sergio for the rest of the season and who knows, the next race may throw up an eighth different winner!
