FIRE DAMPENS MALDONADO'S WIN

Dramatic End To Spanish Grand Prix

14 May 2012

I hope everyone enjoyed watching the race over the weekend? Exciting as it was, it was sad to see Pastor Maldonado’s win being overshadowed by the fire in the William’s garage.

Just as they were all celebrating and listening to Sir Frank William’s victory speech, an explosion in the fuel area of the garage sparked a massive fire, said William’s test driver, Valtteri Bottas. The blaze left 31 people needing medical attention and seven were taken to hospital, where three are still being treated. Thankfully, nobody is thought to have been seriously hurt. But, if the injuries weren’t bad enough, the garage contained Bruno Senna’s car (he had retired after colliding with Michael Schumacher) and extensive damage to the area was reported. On a brighter note, the race saw Venezuelan Maldonado become the fifth different winner of the season and when asked if he could win the title challenge, he said:

Everything is possible, we aren't the best team at the moment. But the gaps are close and I'm driving well. I have a good feeling with the team and with the car.

Lets hope his success continues and more importantly those injured, make a full and speedy recovery. Williams, fire services, the police and the FIA are all working with the Spanish authorities to find out why the fire started.
