Brucey Predicts: Spanish GP

1 May 2014

The Spanish GP is soon upon us with many changes expected to happen to try and break Mercedes winning streak. It looks like next week is going to be an important weekend with all teams looking to improve on their results from the Chinese GP. Most teams are in talk of making upgrades to the cars for the GP in Barcelona with Williams expected to make a major upgrade.

The race at the circuit will be very important and may be decisive in the outcome of the 2014 season. Red Bull is one team that must make changes to their current tactics to try and win the Spanish GP if they have any chance of making a championship out of it. However, Christian Horner has commented recently on the changes they must make and has said that they know where they must make improvements. Hopefully the changes made in the lead up to the Spanish GP will be a step towards those improvements and we may see more of a fight between them and Mercedes. Despite rumors, Jenson Button will be fit to complete at next weeks Spanish GP and therefore will be back in the running after pulling out of The Canary Islands Triathlon. There is talk of Mercedes reviewing their team rules for the Spanish GP. Their team rules currently state, “Competition is enemy number, not your team mate” however, many races this year have given us an enthralling battle between Hamilton and Rosberg to see who reaches the flag first. Team boss, Toto Wolff has now explained that as the competition starts to catch up, tactics may have to change to ensure that time is not lost during battle. In the end, I reckon we’ll see another battle between Hamilton and Rosberg with Red Bull sneaking onto the podium after making their significant changes. However, it’s anybody’s race with the new improvements made to the cars and therefore we may see Vettel or Ricciardo pip Mercedes to the flag.
