04.08.15 TRACK ATTACK SEES THE FIRST FINALISTS GO THROUGH FOR KARTCHAMPS 2015

An absolutely incredible day! Every driver had a fantastic night and we had ridiculous times put in.

We only had two drivers in the cadet category with Harry Bowley going through with a qualification time of 40.265

The 90+ category was tightly contended with Jamie Danton not showing up leaving Tommy Wickins going through unchallenged. He still managed his personal best setting an impressive lap of 31.868s

Simon Gibson battled against Alex Vaughan in the 75kg-90kg with Simon snatching victory with only 0.1 second splitting them as an average over all 5 sessions.

The under 75kg was taken by Alice Goad setting an incredible 31.206 not only smashing her personal best but the category as well.

The Junior catagory was where the real action took place. All 3 drivers taking huge chunks of time of the personal bests. Ultimately it was Harry Gibson going through after not only beating his previous track record (TWICE...) but being the first person ever round our track to break the 30 second barrier. We now have a new record of 30.968s to be beaten.

Overall an amazing night with every driver setting a new personal best and a whole rewrite of our top lap times for the year!

We are already looking forward to seeing what Brighton can do in the KartChamp 2015 finals!

01.08.15 JULY HOT LAPS!

HARRY Gibson takes the top spot for July with an epic new personal best of 31.207s.

23.07.15 CHASE THE ACE!

Thursday 23rd of July saw 6 drivers turn up to do battle and become the new ace, the question is could anyone beat Harry Gibson and stop him winning 4 in a row?!

Practice was over pretty quickly but Harry put his name straight to the top but by only two tenths of a second from Alex Vaughan, so it was all to play for.

A single lap shoot out for pole was very close with Harry just edging it from Alex in 2nd and in 3rd was Mariusz Budrowski.

Nothing changed of the start with the drivers opting to do a single file rolling start, Harry had to defend hard for the first 7 mins of the race with Alex trying his hardest to get past him.

Eventually Harry managed to get away and pull a bit of a lead then suddenly Harry came into the pits to change his kart with 20 mins left on the clock - the big question being could he get back out the pits in time to get back into the lead.

He came out in 3rd and had the remaining 20 mins to chase down and try to beat Alex. with 5 mins left to go Harry had got onto the back of Alex and just needed one good over-take to get back to the front.

As the chequered flag went out Harry was the winner with Alex in 2nd place and Mariusz in 3rd. James Haddow just missed out on a trophy in 4th and in 5th was Jaime Danton followed by Stuart Haddow finishing in 6th.

11.06.15 MANSELL CHAMPIONS!

SEVEN drivers showed up all gunning for the title CHAMPION..

The race started with all drivers getting away from the start line fairly equally the only real mover was Andy Parish going from 7th place to 6th. Lots of different position changes during the black flags but the eventual winner was the pole man Harry Gibson, also bettering his best time by a couple of thousands of a second.

In 2nd was his Dad Simon and rounding out the top 3 was Danny Martin.  Then in 4th was Terry Ewen, 5th went to Luke Charman, Andy Parish followers behind in 6th and in 7th was Max Docherty.

15.04.15 CHASE THE ACE: PIT STOP CHALLENGE!

Brighton's April edition of 'Chase the Ace: Pitstop Challenge' saw 5 drivers competing on the track. Unfortunately Bruce too scared to return to defend his title. So the question was…who was going to become the new "Ace"?

After a quick 10 minute practice session and a hot lap qualifying we took to the Grid with Simon Gibson qualifying in pole position having the fastest  hot lap time of 32.291 followed by his son, Harry Gibson second on the grid, then Alex Vaughan, Luke Charman and Terry Ewen.

As soon as the race had started, the lap times were already down in the low 32’s by all the drivers. At 8 minutes into the race, Gibson and Son pulled out a couple of 31 second lap times allowing them to pull away from the main pack.

As this event was a PITSTOP CHALLENGE, our first pit stop and kart change was made by Mr Vaughan as soon as the pit window opened, 10 minutes into the session closely followed by Terry Ewen. Luke made effective use of the pit window giving him the advantage on Alex putting him out in third in front of Vaughan. Gibson Jnr was the last man to change his kart with 10 minutes to spare on the pit windows closure.

Overall the race was very close with some great overtakes and battles especially between father and son overtaking each other for 1st and 2nd place. Not to mention Terry Ewen, going in for some cracking chances down the back of the track but unfortunately he was unable to make them stick without giving him an unfair advantage and a penalty.

The race results were as follows;

Simon Gibson taking home the gold trophy with a best lap time of 31.734, Harry Gibson with his personal best lap time of 31.336 taking home the silver trophy, Alex Vaughan with a 31.964 in third then Terry Ewen with a 31.981 and Luke Charman coming last with a 31.966 due to an unfortunate event with only 3 minutes remaining, such a shame as he was doing so well in 3rd holding off Alex.

The eventual winner after the 5 safety karts and mandatory pit stops was Harry with his dad Simon in 2nd place as close company, in 3rd was Doug Jenner with Alex Vaughan just missing out on the podium in 4th place.

26.11.14 IT’S MY PARTY AND I’LL KART IF I WANT TO

WEDNESDAY 26th November saw TeamSport Brighton celebrating its 3rd Birthday with a members only 50/50 endurance! 12 teams of individuals battled it out through the 2 qualifying rounds alternating between normal and reverse layouts. The teams fastest qualifying times from each session were then combined which left Tom Williams taking a narrow pole position from Terry Ewen.

The first half of the race was run in the reverse direction and pole man Tom Wiliams showed superior pace and edged out a small lead over Terry Ewen. Just before the halfway point most of the front runners had all pitted for their compulsory stop with some drivers handing over to their team mate.

At the halfway point drivers were slowed behind the pace kart and the direction of the race was switched back to the normal layout and racing resumed.

Gavin Mcourty was the quickest to get to grips with the new layout and immediately started setting the best laps of the race and moved up the order, taking the lead with a cracking move into the pits corner. It was not long though until both Tom Williams and Terry Ewen got back into their stride. This time it was Terry Ewen with a pace advantage who set the best lap of the race with a 31.97 and went on to take victory by just over 3 seconds to Tom Williams (2nd) and Gavin Mcourty in (3rd).

What an EPIC night with a great competition! Well done Terry!

01.11.14 DID YOU MAKE THE OCTOBER HOT LAP LEADERBOARD?

JACK O’Neill retains the number one spot with a record breaking lap time of 31.199 for October. Closely followed by Andy O’Neill and Luke Charman.

Can you beat their times in November? Check back in December to see if you have made the November Leaderboard!

23.10.14 ARE YOU READY TO CHASE THE ACE?

ON the 23rd of October, it was great to see a full grid of 12 drivers booked onto this one before the event with even more drivers attempting to book on late having to be turned away! There were many new members on the grid for the first time in a competitive event and to their credit all drove superbly setting personal bests.

After an intense battle up front though it was the usual suspects Luke Charman, Jack and Andy O’Neil battling for victory. The O’Neill brothers had built up a clear advantage of nearly 20 seconds over Luke in the pit stop phases with jack gaining the upper hand with a cheeky move in the pits. Andy however was determined not to let Jack get away in a battle that literally raged until the chequered flag.

This battle slowed the pair and allowed Luke to dramatically reduce the gap nearly taking the leaders by surprise at the end but he just ran out of time. As it was it was Jack O’Neil with a very narrow victory ahead of Andy O’Neil runner up and Luke Charman in 3rd.
