GP2 Starlet, Oliver Turvey Makes His Debut!

From Karting to GP2 in just a few years?

New Kid on the block, Oliver Turvey has made his debut GP2 appearance in Barcelona this weekend and presents a great new hope for British Motorsport! The 23 year old from Cumbria has been in and around motorsport since he was 8 with a well established early Karting career. Yes that’s right kids, another one who earned his stripes in Karting!

After 3 years of Karting, Turvey progressed to the British Cadet Championship and then to the English National Karting Team a year later which won the Inter-nation Championship! From there Oliver’s rise has been unstoppable, winning the Junior Yamaha National Championship and the Junior Rotax class meaning there was very little else for him to win at the Karting level and it was time to move on.

Transferring easily to larger format racing, Turvey competed in the 2003 British Formula Renault Winter Series and Zip Formula, finishing the top placed Rookie! Since then Oliver Turvey has been working his way through the ranks and picking up race wins in all of the classes he has tried. Pairing up with the Spanish starlet F1 Driver Jaime Alguersuari, Oliver became runner up in the Formula 3 Championship in 2008.

At 23 Oliver is now poised for a cracking season in GP2 where no doubt all the F1 teams will be following his progress ready to pounce should he continue his great early career. Turvey Finished 5th in both of the races this weekend with a fantastic start to the GP2 season, definitely one to watch out for!
