Schumacher gets pole but beaten to line by Green.
After surprising himself, Ralph Schumacher sat in pole position for the start of Sunday’s DTM race at Norisring in Germany. Ralph, however, was penalised for a jump start, which gave Jamie Green the opportunity to take an early lead. Green held his position throughout the race but it was by no means an easy feat, he fought off continual pressure from Mattias Ekstrom during the second half of the race. This makes Green’s third consecutive win at Norising in Nuremburg and to a crowd of 132,000 spectators.
Ekstrom fought a five-second deficit to catch up with Green, closing the gap to under half a second, when the Swede moved into second during the final round of pitstops. Green showed his talent and didn’t give Ekstrom the chance to pass him.
The current leader of the DTM Championship Bruno Spengler was catching both racers near the end but there was little time left to chase them down and have a battle for positions.
Oliver Jarvis grabbed his first points of this season being placed fourth with Timo Scheider coming fifth pushing Gary Paffett down to sixth.
David Coulthard didn’t have the best of races, racing with a door missing on his AMG Mercedes C-Class, and failing to score any points making it increasingly difficult for him to get in with a chance of climbing the leaderboard.
The Race Times were as follows:-
